Utkal Divas (1st April)

In view of the resurgence of Covid-19, the State Government on Friday banned large congregations for celebration of festivals including Utkal Divas on April 1 and associated cultural programmes throughout Odisha.

Utkal Divas History

On April 1, 1936, Odisha was formed as a separated state from Bihar. Odisha is a state that was recognized as a state before it became India Independent. Celebration takes place every year on 1st April in the name of \”Utkal Day\” or \”Odisha Day\” or \”Orissa Day\” or \”Utkal Diwas\” or Utkal Divas\”.

The state was created as a separated province of British India and after that is observed as the Day of orrissa to promote the remembrance of the same and to promote a spirit of unity among all the people of the State.

According to history, this state was called Kalinga. Throughout history the state has been ruled by a number of King\’s, between 1135 to 1948. Odisha Capital was Cuttack before India got independent, but now Bhubaneswar is the state capital of Odisha.

Things to Know

According to Tribal Populations, Odisha ranks 3rd in India. About 31% of the state is covered by forests with vast verity of natural resources and wild life.

On 9th of November 2010, Orissa was renamed as Odisha by the parliament of India and also their language change from Oriya language to Odia language.

The newly formed state Orissa mainly consists of six districts namely Puri, Baleshwar, Cuttack, Sambalpur, Koraput and Ganjam having capital at Cuttack. Later on, the state was further divided into 30 districts and now the Bhubaneswar is the capital of Odisha.

Celebration of Utkal Divas

There are competitions arranged by popular local politicians like fireworks competition. On that day all across the country, the family of Odia arranges different cultural programs like a sing-song program. Utkal Divas the day of remembrance for all Odia helps everybody to be united. The events for the celebrationfor Odisha Day organized at Jagannath Temple, Puri. In the food festival, the main attraction is ethnic and Odia dishes like Manda, Kakara and Ghuguni.
