One of the most famous temples of Bhubaneswar, Lingaraja Temple is one of the largest temples in the city. Built in the 7th century, the temple is religiously dedicated to Lord Shiva, and is the only temple to display the physical form of Lord Shiva, who is believed to have appeared naturally at this place.

The temple provides an insight into the Kalinga style of architecture, built precariously with stone vaults atop the main structure.

Following the rituals and cultures assigned over the years, the temple allows entry only to Hindus.

During the festival of Mahashivratri, the entire temple complex is decorated with flowers and lights to celebrate the occasion.

While the temple receives around 8000-10000 visitors on a daily basis, during major events it can go up to 2 lakhs.

Due to this temple being a big tourist destination, this temple is run under the supervision of the Government of Odisha.
